Monash Special Developmental School is a coeducational government special school located in the metropolitan location of Wheelers Hill, Victoria. The school has a total enrolment of 176 students, 64% are boys and 36% are girls.
Monash SDS is a well resourced facility which offers a flexible educational program incorporating a range of responsive, challenging teaching and learning opportunities and initiatives aimed at meeting the individual requirements of the student population being mindful of accommodating the needs of the broader school community. Monash SDS, which relocated to a purpose built facility in Wheelers Hill provides educational and therapy programs for students who exhibit a developmental delay and/or moderate to profound intellectual disability, aged between 2 years and 8 months and 18 years. Many of the students have additional disabilities including autism spectrum disorder or physical disabilities. The school is organised into five sections: early education, kindergarten, primary, senior and transition. The multidisciplinary team of teachers, therapists, specialists and education support staff work together to plan, implement and evaluate the students' educational programs which are developed in conjunction with the parents/carers. Overall the school curriculum seeks to maximise individual potential, particularly in the area of independent living. The wider local community also affords a variety of important educational environments which contribute to our students' learning opportunities.
